I recently read an article about a trial on the use of this drug in a pediatric form on children with ADHD. I am interested in hearing more information on this to treat my child who has adhd. It is said to not be a methamphedimine like adderall, Ritalin, or concerta; which my child has taken and which i am not pleased with the reactions and side effects of which he has suffered. Any information would be appreciated.

I have adult ADD (non-hyperactive). I used cylert (pemoline). I tried this drug once when they were canceling cylert for a possible alternative. At the time, it was not generic, so very expensive. Pros: not as addictive-forming as Ritalin. Cons: the price (depending on whether its now generic and/or your insurance). Also, I didn't think it helped much. It makes you have a good mood, kind of like an anti-depressant but more uplifting. I don't think it improves concentration nearly as much as cylert or ritalin, but it's better than nothing--esp. if depression is a factor, and again, not habit-forming which i think would be an important issue for children. Also, I think Ritalin and Concerta are the same (Methylphenadate = generic name for both). For children you might try Extended-release concerta (SR) or timed release? It is not as addictive as Ritalin in my experience, but will help concentration more than Provigil from my (one vial) experience.

By the way, Acetyl-L-Carnatine and Ginko are good natural supplements too...
