Tooth Abcess: Mylan-clindamycin Prescribed

Hi there. I have a really bad tooth abscess; my jaw has swelled up. I was prescribed Mylan-Clindamycin 300mg,take 4 times daily. When will I start to see the swelling go down?

Hello, Jakub! How are you? I'm sorry about the infection.

The general rule with antibiotics is that if it's working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours and you should start to see improvement after a full 3 days of taking it. If there's no change after 3 days, you should consult your doctor.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Jakub! I know it's been a few months since your post, but I'm in BAD shape, with a similar situation and I wanted to know how things worked out for you?

I have a super nasty infection below an old root canal, and its eaten away a large portion of my jaw (under tooth #19, lower left molar)

My dentist just put me on 300mg of clindamycin 3 times a day, then referred me to a endodontist.
It's been 28 hours since my first dose, and no improvement yet. Arguably it's more swollen than before and HURTS nonstop.

I'm worried. :( Please tell me things got better for you soon after your post?
