Tonsilitis Hydrocodone Aceteminophen & Hydrocodone/apap S

My 9yr old was perscribed 7.5mls of hydocodone aceteminophen 7.5mg for pain after a tonsilectomy. I have hydroco/apap solution 7.5-500 from her sisters tonsilectomy when she was 6yrs old. Are they the same? Same dose? The hydro/apap expired 7-1-14. Can I still use it?

No, you should dispose of the old one. Liquid medications don't last long past the expiration date, they tend to degrade much faster than solid forms and they can also go sour, so it may make her sick, if you give it to her.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I filled her script and poured the old one out. Thank you :)
She's not getting any pain relief. She's taking the 7.5mls of hycet. Immediately falls into a light sleep for about 10-15min then is back up and hurting. Any tips?

Hi Crystal,
I'm so sorry to hear that your daughter is still in so much pain after taking a dose of the liquid Hydrocodone. I've had a tonisillectomy before also, and there is some serious pain after the procedure. I believe the best thing you can do is consult the surgeon who did her procedure and prescribed her medication, or her pediatrician to see if her dose can be increased; or possibly changed to something else if necessary.
