It can be taken either way. It can cause nausea as a side effect in some people that take it, so in that case, they nay be able to reduce the nausea by taking it with food, but it can also be taken on an empty stomach.

Other side effects, as listed by the U.S. FDA may possibly include dizziness, headache, stuffy nose and joint/muscle aches.
