It really depends on the person, some people have managed to get their cholesterol under control, via diet and exercise, so they have been able to stop such a medication.
The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches.
How is she doing on it? What types of food does she eat? What other medications is she taking? Does she get plenty of exercise?
