My wife is taking Thyroxin Sodium 100 mg for thyroid manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline India. Now I am in Canada and was taking the same with the consultation of the Doctor. Now the test is done and the thyroid is low. Now the doctor recommended Synthroid 75 mcg. My question is that whether I can take Throxin sodium instead of synthroid.

I am taking thyronorm 75 mcg and I keep gaining weight. I stay hungry all the time. I do not sleep well at night and I still stay constipated all the time. Can this pill make me hungry? I also take 1000 D3 once a day. The Dr. has checked me and says that my levels has come up but why do I stay hungry all the time? I do not eat sweets and stay on a low carb diet.
I am a 37 year old married woman. I have been diagnosed with a thyroid problem 2 yrs back. I took homeopathic medicine for two years, then stopped. I consumed bottles of Thyroxine sodium tablets ip 25 mcg (100 tab in one bottle) during these two years. My latest report reads as follows:
T3 (total). 60.57ng/dL
T4 total). 2.32 mg/dL
TSH (ULTRA-SENSITIVE). Over 100.000
Our family doctor suggested Thyroxine sodium ip 75 mcg. Is it ok? Or would 50 mcg do?
Hi Subhash,
Based on my research, Synthroid contains Levothyroxine; which is a synthetic version of the thyroid hormone thyroxine. Thyroxine is the natural hormone that is secreted by the thyroid gland. I can understand why you prefer the Thyroxine since it's not synthetic, but if your doctor suggested that you take the Synthroid (75 mcg) I'm sure he/she's just trying to do what's in your best interest.
Nonetheless, if you like how the Thyroxine works and feel that increasing the dose will help your case, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to ask your him/her if you could go that route that instead. In the end, it's your body so you get to call the shots. I personally can't tell you which one you should take since I am not a licensed medical professional.
Do you have any questions?
