The New Oxycontin That Does Not Work (Top voted first)
UpdatedI FINALLY got THE OLD OxyContin that worked great. I want to say I have NEVER abused ANYTHING in my life. I have been on the NEW OxyContin for he past 3 month's. Now they do not work the way they use to, I Have several chronic medical problem's that were finally under control, NOW, I feel like I am back where I started from, not only do they cost me $1,084.00 a MONTH for something that NO LONGER work's. I have been on the internet for 2 month's and even a police officer is complaining. Would you like to tell me how me and so many other's that are having the same problem's can get the old pill's back. Why don's they make drinking illigal that kills people EVERY SINGLE DAY? INSTEAD OF TAKING A PILL AWAY THAT WORK'S THAT WORK FOR PEOPLE, all due to the junkies that abuse ANYTHING they can get their hand's on. Your company had a law suite once and now people are talking about doing the same thing for not supplying a pill that does work that you have taken away from us. I have 6 grandchildren that I can not even play with any longer. I can no longer get out of my bath tub! When I was on the old pill's, my life was at least 1/2 way bearable, for the last 3 month's since they were changed I sit in a chair all day or lay in the bed. THIS IS NOT FAIR TO THE PEOPLE THAT NEED TO HAVE SOME KIND OF LIFE WHICH THOSE PILL'S GAVE TO ME, they did not get rid of all the pain, but they did make it possible to walk, now I can hardly do that. Try to explain that to a 3 year old that cant even sit on my lap any longer. Have you even bothered to read some of these suffering people's problem's and what your company is doing to us? I bet you have not !!! Seem's to be a lot about the money, but I have new's for you, you are going to loose out on that in the end a whole lot more than you think. you make $1,084 A MONTH FROM JUST ME (1 PERSON) if you would take the time to read what some of these people saying, even a police officer, you are going to loose A LOT more than my money the new pill's give you headach's sick to your stomach, there are too many to list, read a few and you will know what you are doing to us. I do not know what has changed, but some thing has. THEY DO NOT WORK THE WAY THEY USE TO. I want to know what is going to be done about it, is there any way we can purchase the old one's, do you have ANYTHING that is equal to the way the old one's use to work, if so, what is the name of them. IF NOT WHAT ARE WE ALL SUPPOSE TO DO, JUST SUFFER AND LAY IN BED 24/7 ? Could you at least be kind enough to write me back with some sugustions or names of a different pill that would work the same as the old ones did ! I am too old to have to go through this. I would really LOVE to spend time and play with my grandchildren, while I'm still here with out being in pain that requires either sitting in a chair where I can not even hold them, laying in a bed and they do not understand that at all, and they want me to at least play games with them, which I can no longer do, because I can not sit very long, which before these pill's were changed, I could. thank you for your time, but HAS to be something that can talk there place that will work the same as the old pill's did that are time released. YOUR COMPANY DOES NOT EVEN CARE, OR THEY WILL BRING THE OLD ONES BACK, OR TELL PEOPLE WHAT CAN REPLACE THEM THAT WORKS THE SAME AS THE OLD.

PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE BEEN PRESCRIBED NEW FORMULATED OXYCONTIN OP..
As of April 2010 an "abuse resistant", controlled release formulation of Oxycontin was approved for sale in the United States containing Butylated hydroxytoluene, or BHT. The reformulated OxyContin is intended to lessen the ability to tamper with the opioid medication — from being cut, broken, chewed, crushed or dissolved, however, there is no evidence that the reformulation of OxyContin is less subject to misuse, abuse, diversion, overdose, or addiction.[106] The abuse resistant formulation is recognizable by a pill marking "OP" on one side and the milligrams of oxycodone contained within the pill on the other. The previous formulation has an "OC" marking replacing the "OP" of the new formulation.[107] BHT is listed as a "known carcinogen" in Canada and Mexico, and a 'possible carcinogen' in the United States.[108] Only the United States and Japan use the BHT 'OP' formulation, likely due to cancer and other health concerns.
I too cannot take morphine, but can take Oxy and all otehr codeine derivatives. Do you get asked the same stupid questions that I do when trying to get your order filled? ;-)
I know these messages are old, but in case anyone is still reading through this site, I thought I'd still respond. I too was previously prescribed OxyContin - the old version, and it worked great for me. When the new version came out I immediately noticed a difference...... It didn't work as good, it took alot longer to kick in, etc. A friend of mine who also had chronic pain was going through the same thing, until he started going to Canada to fill his OxyContin scripts. He explained to his Dr that the new Oxys weren't working and he wanted to try and fill his scripts in Canada - which have the old pills. I'm not sure exactly what he had to do to be able to fill his script there, but I know he called a Canadian pharmacy and asked them. He was told to see one of their Doctors, with his medical info and script one time, and after that he was able to fill his script every month in Canada. He had to pay cash for them, but they were way cheaper than paying cash in the states for them. Something like half or a third of the price. It's been a while since he has done this anymore though, but only because he didn't feel like driving to Canada every month, in his condition, and then pay cash for a medication that his insurance completely covered. But, I know he was able to do this for about a year though. So, if you are close enough to a Canadian border to travel there, you might want to call and look into this.
I had the exact same problem. I had back surgery and had been on the oxycontin and it works enough that I could actually get out of bed and walk around and go shopping and as soon as they changed the formula it stopped working. I am now in severe pain and I pray for the people who legitamitly need it, myself included, that they chage the formula back. People in pain shouldn't have to suffer just because of a few stupid junkies.

I have been taking pain meds for almost nine years now. I take 80 mg. Oxycontin OP. Has anyone felt irritable and short fused after taking the medicine? Also the medicine does not seem to work the whole 12 hours. I get good relief for about 8 hours. Thank you for your answers.
I have taken old oxycontin for last 14 yrs. This new formula is not oxycontin. IT MAKES ME SICK
It is not what is not in the pill. It is what IS IN THE NEW PILL.
Now it makes me sick.
Isn't the reformulation of OxyC the one where they added Naloxone (an opiate antagonist) in the pill that is only (supposed to be) activated if the pill is crushed by persons who would be using it to get high? Perhaps their crush-activated naloxone thingamajigs are not working as they should. Perhaps they are being released upon digestion and blocking the oxycontin from attaching to the opioid receptors and not allowing any pain relief. This sounds like a big boo-boo on Big Pharma's part.
What a shame it is, that those of us that actually used Oxycontin for severe pain, now have to suffer once again. I have tried the new formulation of OC and other than causing severe nausa, does absolutely nothing for my Foraminal Stenosis. I tried surgery and the Dr only made it worse. Thank you Purdue for the pain I now endure every day.
I completely understand about how all of you need it because of the severe pain that you are in although I am in the complete opposite boat... I guess I would be classified as one of those "junkies" you hate so much. I regret every abusing OC because of course it ruined my life like any other drug will do. My friends mom takes them for pain after having a shattered pelvis and both hips replaced. She is always in pain and needs them and is having a lot of problems with the new ones and I feel for her and wish that she would be able to have them again so that she can get over her pain. The change in formula for the OC's have caused mass problems for everyone. They thought that they could "fix" the OC abuse and addiction epidemic just by taking them away not realizing that everyone who was abusing them would be sick if they didn't use them and need to find something else to make them feel better which of course would be the cheaper and easily obtained drug heroin. Everyone I know that used OC made the switch to heroin (all smokers even though I know everyone else did too, I have only smoked and only know people who smoke it - which doesn't make me or them any better, but I guess I am hopeful that we didn't go to that step in our lives). They put up no precautions to help all those who needed them for pain or find something to replace it that actually worked unlike the OP's, and they put up to precautions to help all those who had a problem with abusing them like making suboxone more readily available to them, and the only alternative of methadone is more damaging then it is helpful because it is so addictive by itself that once you start taking that you can't seem to break free. I am already on a plan to rid my life of addiction and abuse and wish that I had never gotten involved in it. I am also deeply sorry that it has taken away from those who are in need and think that it is unfair that it was ruined for you by people who can't control their actions or find a better way to deal with stress or depression. I only write this to tell you that it has effected people from both sides of the spectrum, and to agree that they should have done something to provide those of you that are in legitamite pain with a subsitute as well as put to action a plan for those who were addicted to get help instead of switching to a worse problem. I am sorry that you are in pain, and am sorry that I was one of those thousands of people who ruined it for all of you. I hope that you find something else to ease your pain, or that they make them available again because it seems like it was better with them around for everyone. Now that the majority of users have switched to cheaper and easier to find heroin they aren't going to go back to abusing crazily expensive and hard to find OC.
I to was doing better with old version oxycodone, but they chose to protect users those who where using for recreation, the new version and being onn oxycodone is very mind altering and even if you are able to get off of it you system is still craving it and there is something in it that is very addictive, Purdue has sent several letters asking whats going on as now are the FDA, it all relates back to hip replacements and how manufacturers are protected, everything is money, and we the ones who need help just a number and not protected at all the FDA will not communicate a bunch of over paid government parasites waiting pensions, I cahllenge them to contact me and follow up, they would be charging several companies butbig houses, fancy cars, large bank accounts, boats prevent them from doingn there job and the stockholders are senators congressmen, mayors and any government official, but there day will come
They do not make the old instant release oxycotin anymore and haven't made it for 2 years now so there in no way your CVS has it, it would be outdated, they still make oxycodone in instant release up to 30mg but that's it
SHIRLEY....
I'm sorry for you're pain BUT????
There is NO NEED TO SUFFER!
Sandoz make a GENERIC "Oxycontin", & it is 1000%
NON TAMPER PROOF!
That means it works EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE OLD OXYCONTIN YOU USED TO TAKE!
I've been on them IMMEDIATELY SINCE THE CHANGE TO OXYCONTIN OCCURED.
The Doctors DONT ADVERTISE THE SANDOZ variety.
But if you're doctor TRUSTS YOU ( as mine does ) then I STRONLY SUGGEST YOU GET THE:
"SANDOZ MR" generic variety IMMEDIATELY.
THEY ARE "NON TAMPER PROOF"
I hope this info helps you out.
Regards Billy From Oz
I've been taking 80mil of oxy twice a day for 3 years, ever since they changed to the new oc ops, I've been noticing that they don't work anymore they last for 4 to 6 hours,so now I've been taking 3 a day,and I've been getting more and more depressed with my pain and I don't know waht to do. I called purdue and told them but they don't give a s--t, what else can I switch to? anyone?
look in2 the drug named opana ok! it is twice the strength per mg as oxycontin and it is, a good medicine also!!! (The active ingrediant is called (oxymorphone) and the brand name is opana (40 mgs of opana) is roughly equal to the same as 80 mgs of oxycontin and works as well (if not better than) oxycondne/oxycontin k.(there is no gay useless protective plastic coatings, or gels to make u sick in them either!!! (hoorey LoL) check into the drug (online preferably) then maybe ask your physician if he/she will consider switching your medicatin k!!! (good luck n may u find relief however that may be my friend k) :-)
I have severe spinal disease and Cancer and never took Oxycontin before until 5 months ago. Prior to that, for 3 months I was titrated with IR Oxycodone but had little overnight relief and short acting day relief. My Pain specialist started me with 60mg ER,(new formula),2 a day, and changed it to 3 a day. Little to NO help and had to go back to 30mg IR, but my MD can only prescribe 5 a day, and they last at most 4hours. I never had the old formula but my MD, Pharma, and other patients have the and have seen the same problem. They do not disolve correctly or work. During a ERCP into my Galbladder, the Gastrointerolgist saw an undisolved pill 5 hours after ingestion in my Stomach. I cannot take morphine or have had success with Fentinil. I have gone through hell just to find a Pain specialist in NY, and his hands are tied and sees the problem with other patients. I have NEVER abused or sold anything but have to suffer because of do gooder laws, addicts and profit. My everyday is hell because of this. They need to re-formulate or give another option. Very sad. Thank you.
The difference of the old. Oc and the new oc,is that the new coating is longer acting where when I took the old formula I would get the 1st rush, with the new formula the coating doesn't allow it,so its all it your head if you think they don't work cause they do,I've been taking 80 mil twice a day w 10mil perks in between, what I did since the change is I take a 30 mil roxy with my 80 and what a difference,or take a 80oc. With a 60oc,and then you'll see the difference.the junkies messed up everything for us normel people w chronic pain, its all about the $(greed) no one cares that you think the pills don't work as long as they get the $..but peep bware the oc rot your teeth out very badly.
I am considered an acceptable loss as collateral damage in the war against drugs. I am convinced that the feds consider anyone taking pain meds a drug addict and just an acceptable loss in the war against drugs.
It is painfully obvious how Purdue Pharma covers up the change of ingredients in new OP Oxycontin formulation. They sent out an army of company representatives to sell doctors on the cover lie that pills haven't changed active ingredients.
Now, new guidelines for doctors suggest for them to REDUCE DOSAGE by 10% if patient complains about effectiveness of Oxycontin OP.
It is only a matter of time before Feds ban Oxycontin or any other Opiate pain meds all together for long term or sever chronic pain. This is a sad day for us pain victims.
I agree Shirley. It is devastating what they have done but the FDA is more to blame for this. They finally came up with something that truly helped so much with chronic pain and because of those who made the choice to abuse them the people who took them as prescribed are having to suffer again! Just wait for the day when one of these people at the FDA are struck with chronic pain like some of us are and see how they feel then! People who die from abusing these meds make that choice and the people who need them are the ones being punished. They won't do anything about alcohol which causes deaths every day too because that is something these higher ups enjoy!
You people talking down on people that are addicted to oxycodone and other pain meds need to get off your high horse. You think your so much better than a "junkie" huh? I beg to differ, but you will probably never understand that. Most of those "junkies" that you are blaming for what Purdue has done with the new OP oxy, started by taking them normally for pain like you. But after a while the drug does not have the same effect so they start using more and with different routes of administration or "abuse" lol. Before they know it they are full blown addicted and become what you like to call a junkie. Lol so many ignorant people in this world. You people make me ashamed to call myself a human being.
PLUR, Sean
