Tedral Magnified Senses (Page 2) (Top voted first)

Updated

I thought i was mentally unbalanced. Seeing enlargements of real life in front of me. Increased hearing sensitivity. Shrinking rooms in front of me own eyes. For years thinking it was me. An unbalanced. Self. It all stopped as i got older until one day I was having an asthmatic condition and took the medicine the doctor had me take 3 times a day! Tedral!. The truck in front of my eyes, as i worked on the engine, seemed to shrink like what happened 5 ears previously. when I was taken tedral regularly. I wasn't crazy after all--- It was the medicine! Anyone else experience shrinking heads, feelings of speed' before the term existed? Why was it taken off the market? Everyone have these problems? It would be nice to hear from others about their Tedral experience. This occurred 1952 through 1968

I had the bugs moving in the walls millions of them. Each one I I could se the reflection of the window on there backs. So clear I saw spiders with boots on. Black and white photographs flicking across my eye's, toys talking to me. It was that yellow medicine.

Thank you for sharing your experience with tedral. Your reference to the peanut allergy and hypersensitivity struck a cord My younger sister was given this drug as a young child and tried to explain what was happening to her. As the drug was prescribed by a trusted family doctor for allergies and asthma, nothing was done about her complaints. My sister is now nearly sixty years old. Her life has been erratic and fragmented. Even though she has a very high intellectual capacity her life has been directionless, without focus and dramatic. Maybe now at this late stage we can find some peace and comfort for her.

Singulair did that to me?? I was told "It'll help your asthma". No, it didn't. It just made me go crazy. Twice. Fifteen years apart. I stopped it and reported it to the adverse reaction website. Dr wouldn't believe me. I no longer see her, or the original one from 15 years ago. Sometimes, you have to do what is best for you. Especially if there is no support from your provider.

As a child, age 4 or 5 back in 1966 / 1967 I had asthma and remember seeing spiders and crawling insects at night whether my eyes were closed or open. I thought all my life thereafter that I had Asthma with hallucinating. ...Now I am researching to find out if this was from phenobarbitol. I am 55 years old now with many drug sensitivities or possible CYP450 gene variations in drug metabolism.

I was given Tedral when I was about five or six for asthma - I had a Mr Potato Head that I played with and I hallucinated that he was chasing me!! I will never forget that. I have always had a thing for taking meds too, not an addict but always willing to try stuff. Thanks from me too TEDRAL

I am 55 now and took the Tedral (yellow thick) Syrup/Liquid for many years, from the early 60's to early 70's. I do remember having a hard time sleeping afterward and experiencing some claustrophobia.
But even though I fought taking the thick yellow medicine, it did the job of keeping my asthma under control, which was a great relief when I was gasping for my breath, along with being terribly frightened which didn't help the asthma attack.
It was in the early to mid 1970's when I began utilizing the Primatene Inhaler. It wasn't until my early to mid twenties when I began to grow out of the asthma problems. Even though now I still keep an albuterol inhaler around in case of seasonal or flu related asthma symptoms. I have often wondered WHY the Tedral was removed from the market, and what long term effect it had on my body. Any ideas???

I remember tedral, thick yellow meds. I use to rinse my mouth after drinking it. I remember the feeling of my head growing. I never knew it was tedral causing that until now.

Hi, I posted earlier. It had the same effect on me; I loved to read late into the night in bed. I did manage to get to school the next day, as I didn't want to have to explain why I was tired to my parents, and get a "lights out" rule. I was in Cub Scouts and read to get "Arrow Points." I picked up interests in aviation and electronics. I remember one book about go-karting in California (I was in Nashville, TN) that I read with extreme interest. I wanted one with a Naugahyde seat! Anyway, it was like burning a flare instead of a candle, and the price had to be paid the next day.

Wow I don't remember these side effects, I might have been too ill to notice. I was being given this foul tasting gloop back in the 60s, until the spin cap inhalers arrived. It took a long time for the tedral to take effect. Back then there was myself and three brothers gasping for breath, and also shredding ourselves due to our eczema !! While we are on the subject anyone remember potters asthma powder?. It was in a green tin,to use it you had to put in the lid of the tin and light it, then inhale the smoke given off! !!! I kid you not. More info please. Oh yes I am a 52 year old male born 1960.

OMG I thought it was just me!! I took it in the mid 60's. I hate bananas to this day because of that stuff. I took it one night and remember going to my mother and telling her there was an old lady standing on my dresser pulling clothes out. Make her stop cause we just cleaned the room. I never saw tedral again. Thank goodness...

See my earlier post about how Tedral made what I was reading seem more interesting. But, as in your case, there was always the crash at the end. Drugs that affect your brain chemistry are like having a bank account. You can spend it fast and have fun, but then there is nothing left for the bills!

I had asthma as a child for several years...was allergic to a bunch of things...pollen, dust, citrus, horse hair etc...This would have been maybe from about 1959 to 1966. I had extreme agitation and felt so hyped up. I hated the feeling. Sometimes wasn't sure which was worse...the gasping and wheezing from the asthma or the "speed" like feeling from the Tedral...(Milky looking liquid...syrupy...tasted like licorice).

I'm 56years of age, from about 1963 to 1979 I had chronic asthma. This consisted of regular attacks and in the spring of 1971 and 72 suffering from status asthmaticus. One major attack only in each of those seasons; this put me out of action for four weeks at a time usual meds., on these two occasions being theophylline and hydrocortisone slow injections. The main medication though being tedral forte; I am glad to read about other fellow asthmatics suffer strange effects especially about visual disturbances I tried to explain this to an optician who look at me in a strange way. Also the very strange heads and high feelings at senior school in the morning could be hard to handle, its good to know others have gone down the same road. In 1978 I changed to ventolin, the shakes a first frightened me but I accepted them.

I took tedral from 1960 to 1970 (ages 8-17), to reduce my asthma symptoms It helped with my wheezing. I experienced shakiness, rapid heart beat, irritability, inability to concentrate AND extreme drowsiness. In street lingo, that medicine might have been called a "speed ball". I do remember sitting at the breakfast table and my father asking if I was "high". I had no clue

I'm now wondering what your dentist said about tedral and your dental health. I just had to have nine teeth replaced with implants and wonder if my childhood doses of tedral had anything to do with the my extreme dental issues as an adult.

I am wondering if taking Tedral for several years as a child (due to severe asthma) has caused my extreme insomnia condition, which i have had for approximately 25 years. I could not sleep at night when i was given this very strong barbituate. I would get shaky hands, my eyelids would shake at night when i would close them to try to sleep, i also would lose my appetite (nothing tasted good). I have an irregular heartbeat, a have extremely sensitive hearing (the smallest noise will awake me) and i don't taste food as well.
