my insurance company would not pay any longer for my hypertension medicine losartan hctz 100-25 mg tabs and put me on a tab supposed to be the same but made by a company lupin. Have noticed my headaches returning which signaled my elevated blood pressure and have only been on the new pills for a week. Are they the same and work as well as my former pills?

Yes, this tablet is supposed to contain the same ingredients, Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, in the same amounts.

However, generic medications are allowed to differ in the active ingredients by as much as plus or minus 20% from the name brand. The U.S. FDA considers this an acceptable therapeutic window.

Unfortunately, some people, like myself, are very sensitive to some medications and the slightest variation can cause problems. Thus, if this one is a little lower in the active ingredients, than the one you were taking, it may not be controlling your blood pressure as well as the other one was.

You can try talking to the pharmacy to see if they can get one in that's manufactured by a different company, to see if it works better for you.

Do you know if your insurance will cover it, if your doctor writes brand medically necessary on the prescription?
