Taking Tramadol With Oxycodone

My husband's medication ran out and he takes oxycodone 20mg. He went to see his pain management doctor and she ignored what he was explaining to her. Now he has no meds and is in excruciating pain. He wants to take tramadol but I am afraid it might harm him. What do I do? He's tired of being labeled as pill popper when in all due reality he has lupus.

Hi, I've been on Tramadol & Oxycodone at the same time for back pain. There was no adverse reaction for me. Currently I'm taking Tramadol, alone. I can say that many people I've met that suffer from Lupus are taking Tramadol to help them cope. Hope this helps.

Have you considered talking with your prescribing doctor or pain management clinic about working out a tapering schedule? That may be a good option depending on the duration and frequency in which you've taken it.

Some people on related discussion threads here have stated that Tramadol should be an over-the-counter pain medication due to its strength relative to other opioid analgesics. I can't speak for myself since I've never taken it, but it sounds like there's plenty of room to go up or down in the hierarchy of different pain medications available as alternatives to Tramadol.

However, I'd also suggest doing some research on Kratom for opioid withdrawal and even as a means of natural pain relief if you're looking to get off of pharmaceuticals in general, but still require some degree of pain management.
