Surgery And Bystolic Can You Have Surgery

May have major sugery. They want a lower Blood persure. I have heard the surgey can not take place when talking Bystolic and you should where a medical alert in event of an emrgancy so they know how to treat the emergancy.

I was on atacand 8mg for high blood pressure... maintenance purposes. I have lost a lot of weight due to a healthier life style of eating. 2 months ago, my doctor switched me to Bystolic 5 mg after being on atacand for about 8 years. He said Bystolic is better? metoprolol tartrate comes up as a generic alternative to Bystolic recommended by my perscription insurance company, Medco. It is much cheaper and my blood pressure appears to be quite under control for the past 3 years since I have been loosing weight. Is this cheaper medication ok? And, I am also going to have major surgery this summer... tummy tuck and lipo. Will this cheaper drug, metoprolol tartrate , be ok?

The warnings actually state that you should make sure your doctor(s) know that you are on the medication, before you have any type of surgery.

In these cases, your doctor has to weight the risk of your undergoing surgery untreated against any possible risk posed by your being on the medication when you have surgery.
