Sulfamethoxazole Tmp Ss Tablet

I am self medicating with these 2 yr.old tablets that were given for my now deceased husband. I am on oxygen full time and for the past week, my breathing has gotten worse and I have pain in my right ear. I decided to cut out all of my herbal pills for eyesight and hair etc. to see if that was the cause. I still have shortness of breath. I figure I might have an infection going on so I am trying the Bactrim to see if that helps. I take a half pill a day of Digoxin - very low dosage. I have only taken one Bactrim, but so far, so good. Should I be taking Bactrim for my lungs? I know its ok for my ears.

This antibiotic can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections, as listed by the FDA. Possible side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

However, there is the risk of your not having enough to complete a full course of treatment, or of your not having an actual infection, which creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Thus, I strongly urge you to see your doctor, rather than self-medicate.
