The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic, so it will only teat bacterial infections. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
However, it will not alleviate the pain. In order for this to help with the pain, it has to start fighting the infection and that will take several days. It's also best not to take it, unless your doctor confirms the presence of an infection and tells you that it's appropriate to do so. Taking it inappropriately creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria.
