Sulfameth/thoprim 800/160 Tabs/adverse Reactions

given drug for a UTI. after two days i have bad pain in my right eye and blurred vision. what is this? is this an adverse reaction???

I am taking sulfameth trimethoprim 800-160 tabs (1 tab. twice a day) The doctor said I had e-coli in my urine. I have suffered from uti's with lower back pain for over 2 years and have been on different kinds of antibotics. but this is the first time I have been told that I have e-coli in my urine. It has been 4 days since I started this new medicine I have 3 more days to go. I have been drinking 8 bottles of water a day and I still have lower back pain and don't feel much better. Do you have any advice?

Side effects of Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim can include:

Painful or swollen tongue; dizziness, spinning sensation; ringing in your ears; joint pain; or sleep problems (insomnia)

More serious side effects that can occur may include:

Fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild; pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding; cough, feeling short of breath; diarrhea that is watery or bloody; feeling restless or irritable, confusion, hallucinations, seizure; slow heart rate, weak pulse, severe tingling, numbness, muscle pain or weakness; nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or urinating less than usual or not at all.

This is not a complete list of side effects, so I would definitely consider contacting your doctor regarding the blurred vision and eye pain. It's very likely that they are side effects of this drug.

I wish you the best of luck in getting better. My only suggestions to you are to stay on top of eating plenty of non-citrus fruits (blueberries, dates, bananas, as well as some fresh parsley), as they will help cleanse your system and are helpful to the kidneys. Parsley tea has been a used traditionally to treat urinary tract infection, kidney stones and liver, bladder and prostrate problems. I would blend it up with water and have some throughout the day, along with the said fruits.
