Sudden Acute Backpain With Diahorrea

I have had five attacks of sudden searing back pain in two years. I have diverticular disease and osteo- arthritis. The pain was so sudden and so intense that I thought I had slipped a disc but when my doctor examined me he said that there was no sign of a slipped disc and that the problem appears to be in the soft tissue. Prior to the last two attacks, I have had slight headaches and a rise in temperature the day before. The last attack was accompanied by very loose bowels and in the recovery period of every attack I have had the constant urge to defacate. In the penultimate attack, my tummy was as tight as a drum with pain in the groin area as well as the sacral area making it almost impossible to straighten up. My doctor has organised an Xray and has referred me to a physiotherapist, but as I am currently suffering with the aftermath of yesterday's attack....very tender and terrified of another full blown episode as every little movement causes twinges, I really feel I need some positive feedback and advice. Thankyou.

Do you have diverticulitis?

If so, these symptoms may be related to flare ups of it, as listed by the NIH. It can also cause stomach pain, abdominal cramping and bloating.

What treatments have you used for it?

As to the slipped disc, there's no really way for your doctor to know whether or not you have one from just an exam, it requires X-rays and/or an MRI.
