Subutex While Pregnant Scared!
UpdatedI have been taking either suboxone or subutex for a little over a year now. I started taking it because I have a bad knee and my line of work causes a lot of pain (CNA in nursing home). I ended up getting hooked on it. I only take 2mg a day and I do sometimes skip a day. I recently found out I am about 5 weeks pregnant unexpectedly and I am terrified. I refuse to have a baby hooked on anything but I have read that stopping can cause miscarriage. I am already scared because I had a miscarriage 6 years ago. I do not know what to do. I want to stop taking it but safely and I'm scared to tell a doctor due to the fact I do not have a prescription. Please Help!

First of all, suboxone and subutex are NOT used for pain. They are used, wrongly, for withdrawal symptoms associated with opiate withdrawal. They are nearly impossible to get off of without the worst withdrawal symptoms you can imagine. If that's what it makes you go through, imagine what your baby will go through. Why would you EVER get pregnant while in this drug? If a doctor put your on that for pain...sue him/her. He doesn't deserve to have a licence. Your baby is in danger. Subutex is better to take than suboxone during pregnancy. But, you're still just asking for an opiate addicted baby. When you become a mother, your stupid pain shouldn't matter. All that should matter is your baby and their pain and their needs.America's needs to do something about these uneducated people who just get pregnant without thinking at all.
Hello, LouLou! How are you? Congratulations on the baby and I do understand your fears.
However, trust me, your doctor has heard and dealt with it all, before. It is safe to tell them about your problem and get help with it. Subutex is safely used during pregnancy for many, many women and their babies are born happy and healthy. You're not the first woman to be in this situation and you won't be the last. :-)
The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
I would also like to apologize for the other very rude response you received, that was unnecessary.
Can you please post back and keep me updated?
OK so I found out I was pregnant today. I have had a child before that went through some withdrawals from me being on Subutex. I do not want to go through that again. I am going to get clean 100% while I'm pregnant. I know there can be risks with this but I have to do what I have to do, and I know I will not slip up. But this is my biggest question, I know I have to wean myself off but if I wean myself off while I'm pregnant which is the best trimester to do that?
Wow... This woman is scared already and here you are being a judgmental jerk.
@Post #1,
It might come as a shock to u but some women get pregnant by accident and just end up stuck in a bad situation and trying to make best of it so stfu!! Ask any drug worker, they will tell u giving birth on subutex vs methadone is 99% safer for the baby. Subutex causes minimal withdrawals. I have had a subutex baby and I know she slept fine, had slight manageable withdrawals and didn't need meds. She was home after 5 days of observation and now is a healthy happy very forward 2 year old, so for u to say people shouldn't get pregnant is bollocks. If given a choice I would have never ever planned to get pregnant while on subutex but it happened. I couldn't go thru with an abortion and then I tried and failed 3 times while pregnant all against the advice of my doctor and drugs worker to detox. If u try detoxing when pregnant they don't give u any help or pain relief anyway so u have to do it totally bareback, no sleepers, no relief, nothing, which is very stressful for u and the baby and given that I was so determined to get off my meds so my daughter didn't suffer after birth made her suffer more whilst I was still pregnant cos I kept trying to detox and failing which made my baby suffer more and as I was still pregnant. They had no way of monitoring her and I cud have miscarried. That's the whole reason they tell u not to detox dumba**. So when the baby does come out after birth they can monitor it and give meds if needed. U obviously know nothing about subutex and pregnancy cos its the safest way by far in opioid maintenance. I was an addict for 10 years and a script saved my life. I got on a script and just under a year later I fell pregnant while on contraception and didn't want to kill my baby so I have maintained on a script ever since cos that's safe for me and stops me from relapsing to street drugs. I just have to take a tablet every day. Same as someone who takes heart meds daily. My daughter is spoiled with money, love, affection, everything and no one can tell me that cos I take a pill every day to help me with my addiction makes me an undeserving mother!!!
