Straterra Vs Vyvanse
UpdatedMy son has a very mild form of aspergers he does not have ADHD but has ADD. He is also on Zoloft 50mg as well as vyvanse 50mg. He has been on both of these meds for a little over a year and the only positive thing me and my husband has noticed is his concentration at school. The biggest thing we have noticed is agitation, tics like biting his nails and the skin beside his nails so short to where they bleed and just a VERY bad attitude. He is also very down on himself. I was reading the side effects of both the Zoloft and Vyvanse and both cause agitation and tics. Anyone have any suggestions on what other meds there is out there that we could talk to his doctor about? He has been on Ritalin and concerta and those did not help. The Zoloft is the first SSRI he has been on and I talked to the pharmacists and he mentioned lexapro as a milder form of a SSRI. We really don't want him on a stimulant at all but we DO need to find something either stimulant or non stimulant that will help him. He is 13 years old. Thanks

Clonidine might be something to ask his doctor about.
Learn more Clonidine details here.
If you peruse that link, you'll see that it's kind of a multipurpose medication and under the uses section, it's often given along with a stimulant, in some cases it helps reduce the tics.
As I said, it's just a suggestion, but it may be helpful.
Does anyone else have any ideas to add?
My 21 y.o. son also has mild AS. He has been taking Prozac and Dexedrine for about 10 years. This is the best combination of meds we have found, after trying all the other newer ADHD meds.
