have been on generic lunesta for over 5 yrs - want to get off totally. what is best way? currently take 2mg every night - do I need drs help to do this? can I start cutting in half every night, then every other night, and keep taking 1/2 tab for a few weeks; then cut into quarters, and do the same?

or is it advisable to have the doctor wean me off? thanks! I have fibro, had lyme a yr ago and know I will probably be back to the insomnia, but am trying to get off all meds (including bp) realize it will take some time, but gotta do it!!!

Hello, Catsmeow! How are you?

From what they say on the Lunesta website, it is not supposed to be habit forming and can be taken for as long or short of a duration as needed, which I would assume means you can just stop it. However, I'd suggest double checking with your doctor, first. I know stopping some of them abruptly can cause blood pressure elevations.

Along with the insomnia, withdrawal effects could also include nausea, headache, diarrhea and irritability, as listed by the FDA.

Is there anything else I can help with?
