Stop The Morphine?

Updated December 21, 2013

My 28 yr old son is on day 4 following a tonsillectomy. He was originally prescribed 5 mg oxycodone every three hours and 15mg extended release morphine every 12 hours. The oxy was only providing relief for 2 hours, so doctor prescribed two dilaudid (2mg), every 3 hrs, in place of oxy. He got a horrible headache after taking the dilaided, so he returned to the oxy. My question is: should he discontinue time release morphine as he is very concerned about his headache returning from the morphine. Thanking you in advance.

Hello, Beth! How is he doing?

If the Morphine hadn't caused headaches before, why does he think it would start doing so?

I'm not quite sure that I'm understanding your question. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you!

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
