Hello, Dingle! How are you?
The U.S. FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
As to stopping it, if you stop suddenly, those are normal withdrawal effects. The best thing to do is to taper off slowly, as guided by your doctor, by doing a slow taper to prevent the worst of the withdrawals.
Is there anything else I can help with?
