Smz Tmp Sus 200 40 5 Prolong Use

My daughter is almost 5 months old. When she was 3 months old she got admitted to the hospital due to being septic (couple days from death) from a uti. We did a test on her a few weeks ago and she's got bladder reflux so when is prone to getting more utis. Her doctor put her on this medicine daily till further notice to help prevent another uti and any worse kidney damage. My question is, with her taking this every day for a prolonged period of time weaken her immune system and make her more acceptable to other sicknesses

No, this medication is commonly given long-term in such situations. The FDA classifies it as a antibiotic and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

She may eventually develop resistance to this antibiotic and then have to take a different one, if she would get another infection, but otherwise, she should be fine.
