I was taking this 6 months ago, but it was a round pill that said 80 mgs...i took half a pill a night (so...40 mgs). My doctor renewed my Rx but it is oval and bigger and says 800-160. How many mgs is this?

Sulfamethoxazole (800mgs) with Trimethoprim (160mgs) is a generic for Bactrim, it is an antibiotic that is used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash.

Tara, there is no 80mg formulation. Are you sure this is what you were taking? Is it possible that you were just taking Trimethoprim by itself?
