Smz-temp 800-160 (Top voted first)

My 44 year son taking this drug for bacterial bladder infection. Following completion of the med, his urine is dark & grainy & it's difficult to urinate. Might this be a side effect of the drug?

Side effects of Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim can include a wide variety of different symptoms. You can see the list of them I posted below. I think you'll find that one or more of these symptoms could be exactly what he is experiencing:

Fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild; pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding; cough, feeling short of breath; diarrhea that is watery or bloody; feeling restless or irritable, confusion, hallucinations, seizure; slow heart rate, weak pulse, severe tingling, numbness, muscle pain or weakness; nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite, itching, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or urinating less than usual or not at all.

Because difficulty urinating is regarded as a severe side effect, it should be immediately reported to his doctor so further action can be taken if necessary.

Ummm.... "the first sign of any skin rash, no matter how mild..." What? What should we do? Stop taking it? Contact a doctor at earliest convenience? Get to the ER asap?
