Side Effects Of Nitrofurantion

My Dr said I had a UTI, all though I had no symptoms, so put me on a course of nitrofurantion. I started feeling faint, about to pass out, my heart was racing, and I was breathless, I returned to the Dr, and he put me on a higher dose, I felt even worse, and my right eye couldn't focus properly, I ended up in hospital for a week, still having funny turns, but they couldn't find anything wrong with me. And denied it could be the nitrofurantion. My optician checked my eyes ,and said vision in one eye had got worse,I went back after three weeks, and it had gone back to normal,he said it could have been the pills. This was last September, but I still feel absolutely exhausted, and all my muscles feel weak, could it have such a lasting effect.

No, it would not be normal to still experience side effects, so long after stopping the medication. The FDA lists the typical ones for this drug as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Are you on any other medications? Do you have any health conditions?
