Side Effects Of Methadone

my dr just put me on methadone hcl 5-325 for a 3 level back fusion and was wondering if this causes bad heartburn? I've tried finding the side effects with no luck.

It will cause heartburn at first.When you start takeing it.I have been on methadone for about 17+ years.It causes alot of things,you will start gaining weight,your teeth will start geting bad and you will stay consipated.That is what i have seen it do everyone i know.Thats what is has done to me.I am ready to get off of this but i have heard some bad story trying to stop.I was told by a friend that suboxone was the best way to detox off methadone.I worry because i have been on methadone for so long.If anybody has a better ideal,i sure could use some adwise.Thanks

You can detox off Methadone--with Methadone. Just gradually lower your dose over time. I go to a Methadone Clinic and that is how they do it, so thought I would suggest it to you. And some of the side effects you can get from Methadone that I know of are: Males may experience impotence, premature ejaculation or decreased sexual desire when on high dosages, Females may suffer decreased sexual desire and often menstrual periods are interrupted, Upset Stomach, Constipation, Swelling due to depressed pituitary function,Excessive Sweating, Sedation, Overdose, Abrupt Withdrawal, Dizziness/Drowsiness, and Allergic Reactions. It is advisable to eat before ingestion of mehadone. If the stomach becaomes upset, antacids are advised. Tiredness and depression may occur, usually at high medication levels. Alcohol, Valium and other drugs, when combined with methadone, may be fatal. Methadone is a central nervous system depressant, and due to Done having a long acting ability, complications may occur long after Done ingestion.Use Caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities. And finally, if you develop difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or hives--Seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY.

Heartburn is NOT listed as a common side effects for narcotics, though it does happen to some individuals very rarely.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation.

i am currently coming down on my methadone as i am sick and tired of the life it brings,i was on 190mg,i am now down to 60mg,i come down 10 every week,but the doctor wont let me go below 40mg without a psych report and n.a.meetings is this normal,and do u think i should soon swap to subetex.

I am on methadone for pain management. Yes I have experianced frequent heartburn. I never got before. I never thought it may be the methadone.

ive been on methadone for 5 yrs now and all of a sudden im getting this twitching almost like dysconizia i shake my hands tremble and im getting involuntary movements when i miss a dose

I am currently on 140 mg of methadone and just started the weight loss clinic where I take HCG injections 2 days a week and the lipotropics 3 days w the Phentermine daily. I had to take a Peak and Trough test last week before my clinic would change my dose. They said my peak and trough read that I was over medicated and I was like red lined. It was something they had never seen before. Does anyone know if the HCG, LIPOTROPICS or the Phentermine can interfere with the Methadone levels that they find in your peak and trough tests? I realy have felt bad for the past 5 weeks late in the evening and restless at night as well as shakey in the late evening and early morning until I get dosed for the day. I have a appt next week to speak with the DR but trying to figure out if anyone else has had these problems with these meds before. I researched it and never found any negative info on them before I started doing them. I have always taken the Methadone as directed and nothing more since I started there July 2 yrs ago.So I do not like the thought of the Clinic looking at me like an abuser just by this peak and trough test. Does anyone have any advice preferable someone that is a DR or someone that has ran into the same things with there peak and trough tests.

What the hell I have never had a issue with any sexual side effects while on methadone but while detoxing I am suffering from the worst possible side effects ... I have lowered my dose by ten mil grams every other day I started at 100 and and I'm now at 70 milligrams and I skip everyother day ... Me and my girlfriend have the most amazing sex in the world but today during intercourse I lost my erection :((( not freaking cool ... It has NEVER happened before EVER does any other male suffer the same side effects and could alcohol play any role in the side effects??? Seeing how yesterday was cinco de mayo we had tequila and last night I had no problem but this AM was unexceptable to say the least... Does anyone know what if anything can be done about this,,,,???

Did u end up detoxing? My husband is doing it now. I'm Super proud but he had lite libido, keeps losing reductions during intercourse, making me feel unwanted. Anyways I detoxed from 130 with help of a natural pharmacopathy regime. of you detoxed, did your love life return to normal ? Ours was amazing and I want it back.

Can you PLEASE tell me the program you used to detox???? I have come down from 140 to 87.5 in almost 2 years. It feels like FOREVER:( will I ever get off this when my withdrawal symptoms are so bad? I can't do ANYTHING before my dose and I've stacked on 15kg:( also does anyone know if I start working out with methadone will I lose weight or am I stuck with it (the weight) just COS of being on it?

I'm not sure if anyone can answer this but I'm hoping. I have been taking opiates daily for about 5 months now. Try to quit every so often. Longest was 8 days. Well in this five months I have gotten methadone a few times. The last week though I have had at least one or a half of one a day of the tens which I'm told are the 1000s. Well I read online that methadone can cause a misreading on a pregnancy check after I took 2 diagnostics today and both were positive just faint. Quite a few sites say methadone either produces more hcg or in your urine it comes up as hcg. Hoping and thinking its just the methadone causing it. I had my boyfriend do the same thing as well since he takes all that I do and if it was just the methadone maybe it would come up in him as well. Well that didn't work. He got a negative. Is it possible I am not pregnant and its just the pills causing extra hcg? Also I am curious to know how many days it would take off of the methadone to get a clear real answer? And do u have to be on it for so long be Before it even interacts with your hcg levels?? Please help

I am curious if I am taking 35 mg of liquid Methadone the night before lab work, if it will be showing up? The lab it is sent to has a cut off level of 150 ng/ml. I am usually on 70 mg a day but had some problems and have not taken it in about 3 days. Am really nervous please do not judge me I am new here and am trying to figure out if it will be in my system as it needs to be in my system. Thank you.

I had the same problem. Everyone just tries to talk to out of tapering down, and it's because the clinic gets paid for every person enrolled. They try to say the longer you stay the less likely you will relapse but really who wants to get up every morning day in and day out going to the clinic. Just be firm say it's my body I have the right to make the decisions and they have to do it.

Oscar33, I know your post was 6 yrs ago but I was just wondering if you got off the methadone?? I was on suboxone and to me that was super hard to get off... I wouldn't substitute one for the other... I would gradually decrease the methadone and take my time with it.. you dont want to rush it being that you have been on it for a while.. if you ever wanna chat my email is {edited for privacy}.

I have been on methadone for 10 years & i get heartburn occasionally but i don't believe that it is a direct result of the methadone. It comes in waves. Some weeks I don't have any heartburn, other times i have it for 2 days without much relief. I think if you have any pre existing stomach issues, then it may cause heartburn/indigestion. Just eat healthy, research info online about methadone. Many people are uneducated about their health & shouldn't be. Hope this helps.

I would switch to Suboxone that's what I'm doing I'm tired of going to the clinic every day I'm waiting line to get your dos mainly I'm tired of being a prisoner to the methadone clinic I don't get no taken except Sunday which mea which mean you can't make any plans to do nothing you're anywhere anyway that's why I choose to switch the doctor told me that suboxin was not a that suboxin was not as strong as methadone that's fine with me as long as I don't have any of the withdrawal symptoms I guess we will see

And I am upset that they think everyone that is on pain medication is a drug addict. Well they're not. Sure your body is addicted to it, but that doesn't mean everyone is out seeking drugs. I would rather have my job back where I was making $80,00 per year. I would give a limb in exchange for chronic back pain. I feel for everyone that is actually in pain and needs medication to help.

First of all your doctor shouldn't have prescribed methadone for acute pain. Methadone is prescribed for chronic pain. I have been on methadone for 3 years this time and it truly does help chronic pain. I've also had to withdrawal from it to have another back surgery. It is very hard and painful to come off of depending on how long you have been on it. First week is the hardest. But as for chronic pain it has worked the best for me. Good luck. Pain stinks. I've dealing with it since 1998.

Same s*** to me and 6 weeks after stopping it my hands and body are almost normal. 3 years taking it and last year it started and got worse so I had to stop. I thought I had MS or something. It does not go away. It's worse in the morning and goes all day. That s*** sucks.
