I'm was prescribed amitriptyline even though I'm only 17, because I have permanent headaches and migraines often. It's helped a lot, I take it at night since it makes me tired.. The one side effect has been some nights, I wake up a few times to pee. It helps a lot, so I think it's worth it,

I'm a 20 year old female and I've been suffering with migraines for 5 years. They were recently diagnosed as post-traumatic headaches caused by a car accident I was in 5 years ago. I've been taking Amitriptyline 10 mgs every night for 9 months and it has decreased the frequency of my headaches dramatically. I was also very drowsy, especially in the morning, for the first month so I can imagine your little guy is having a hard time! I would try him taking it even earlier and see if it makes a difference. I don't see why you couldn't cut it to 5 mgs but I would consult your doctor before changing his dosage. Hopefully he's doing well!

I started taking amitriptyline hcl 5 years ago 1 pill 10mg each night. Now I am trying to wean myself off. Jan. this year I started taking 1 pill every other night. Now my doctor says I should take 1 pill every Monday and Thursday. How long will this continue until I am finished.

4 weeks on endep, sleeping a little better. 6 hrs waking up still with extreme sweating and unrefreshed. Feel like I'm half drunk. i.e. brain fog most of day....interfering with life functioning.... Also on 14mg nicotine patch. Can they be a bad combination? Nightmares have been added.

I was prescribed a 10 mg dose for fibromyalgia. I took my first dose last night and didn't sleep all night. Tried to take a nap today, but still couldn't sleep. I am now tired, and really don't want to take it tonight for fear I'll be awake all night again. I don't think this is the pill for me. I'm hyperactive, and I think it's having the opposite effect of what it should be having in my body. My mind was racing all night. I'm too tired to mess with it again. I think I just need pain meds.

My Dr prescribed Amitrip tyl inexpensive HCL 10mg for migraines. I specifically did not want to be on anything that would contribute to weight gain and she assured me it was not a side effect now I see it is? With a lower dose have many of you notice a weight gain issue?

My doctor gave me 10mg twice a day to help me sleep. The first time I took it, it made me too drowsy, now it just helps me sleep.

I was prescribe the same thing I had severe shingles, it didn't help my pain although I only took it few days and the pain was unbearable and my doctor gave me Norco for my pain, but I am gaining weight. My pain from shingles still painful. My doctor told me that I will be in pain for awhile.

for whatever reasons I advice people to never use this wicked thing its negative effects are more than its positive one.. am saying this from a personal experience. Thank god have left it for good and safe.To God be the glory

Amitriptyline is NOT the right medication for everyone. Some people function perfectly on it (like myself) and some people are miserable on it (I have a friend who is that way). I thought in the very beginning that being drowsy was miserable from it, but now I've been on it for so many years that I don't have any problems with it.

I have learned the following from taking it over the years:
Take your daily dose between 4-6 p.m. It should be approximately 2 hours before you plan to go to sleep for the night. I generally take mine at 4p.m. and usually go to sleep between 6-7p.m. because we get up super early. Secondly, make sure you do not have any caffeine or alcohol 3 hours before or 12 hours after taking the medication. This gives it a chance to work in your system, without things in your system that can increase the effects. If you take anti-depressants or stomach acid controllers (such as Cimetidine) you should take them in the morning and take the Amitriptyline at night. Make sure you will have 8-10 hours to sleep prior to taking your evening dose.

I take 75mg of Amitriptyline for pain and to help with sleep, every evening at 7.30pm. This ensures that I am sleepy when I go to bed between 1 and2 am and I manage 4 to 5 hours of sleep. Without it I get no sleep. I don't find it helps with migranes.

Amitriptyline will make you gain weight, but it doesn't make everyone gain weight. There's nothing you can do to counteract the weight gain. One thing it can do is increase your appetite, so make sure you aren't eating more than you normally would.

Hi I have just started Amitriptyline for fibromyalgia pain. Have resisted for 2 years, I did try CBD oil from Healthspan but made my pain worse! I cut my 10mg tablet in half to 5mg 1st night GP no impressed, however fibromyalgia nurse advised dosage to me. I am concerned about the vision and weight gain effects though as due to not being able to exercise I am overweight. Does anyone know if you stop amitriptyline does the weight come off?
