found a white round tablet with an x imprinted on both sides. about the size of an altoid.

It sounds like the X is probably just score lines on the tablet and without any other real markings, there is no way to positively identify it.

Sounds like the ones I found in my house (cleaning lady, kids?). One half an inch in diameter. Two wide (about 1/32 of an inch) lines cross, to form a long off-centered and slightly askew X on both sides. These are not scores, but a design that looks like two skis (angle is about 20 degrees). The pill's faces are slightly rounded outwards, not flat, like two dishes face-to-face.
