Risperdal is a very potent antipsychotic, so while it can take about 4 weeks to reach its full level of efficacy in the body, it will start to have some effect almost immediately, primarily due to its sedative like properties.

Its most common side effects are related to that and may include dizziness, drowsiness, somnolence and weight changes.
