Refilling My Xanax 4 Days Early (Top voted first)
UpdatedI get xanax 1mg perscribed to me. On the lable it says take 1 to 2 a day as needed. I only receive 50 pills. I got it filled on 7.17 and today is 8.12. I use gateway insurance at a CVS pharmacy.
It has been 26 days if i am correct. That means if i take 1 pill a day thats 26 out of 50, 1.5 pill a day is 39 out of 50 and at 2 a day thats 52 out of 50.
Well wait, if i only have 50 pills, i cant take 52, which by refill date would 60 pills.
I have 2 refills left, i was wondering if i would have a problem getting them refilled, i have read insurance goes by the percentage of pills left. Well it depends on how you look at it depending on what i "should" have left...
@King, I have to be honest with you. When I read your post it was comical because I truly didn't understand what exactly you wanted to know. I understand the quantity question though. **since the doctor said you can take one to two pills as needed, it's what they consider a PRN order. The doctor is pretty much only want you to take it as needed and not everyday. Regardless, the doctor should have given you 60 pills based on the 2 a day and that's a month supply. You would be covered because even if you take 2 a day at 60 pills it's a month supply. Now if you only take one a day or even skip days because you didn't need it, then you will have pills leftover. That has nothing to do with the pharmacist or the insurance. The only thing these two entity requires is time frame. That means you could have 20 pills leftover and it's not the insurance or pharmacist business. There business is that you are getting your refill at the right time. I don't know were you got the information that the insurance goes by percentage of what you have left. No way, that's true. They are not in your home to see how many pills you are taking. The pharmacist /Insurance does not have the authority to see your pill bottle or question how much you have left. If it's time for your refill go get it because it's none of their business how you are talking it. The only person who have a vested interest in how you are taking it. If 1 pill doesn't work and you have to take two all the time then let your doctor know because it gives them the opportunity for you and the doctor to revamp your medications.
Should, that's the operative word. Does it though? Not usually. I've been on them for over 20 years and if I run out, day one is fine, day 2 is not fine, day 3 is a b****.
There are some over zealous Pharmacists that will attempts to mess with you. Some of these employees don't belong working with customers. If it was me I would ask this worker for the name(s) of their Pharmacy manager and contact information for the district pharmacy manager. I would also contact the store manager as well. Of course you are allowed to pick up medicine one or 2 days early. You might also file a complaint with your state pharmacy board and make your intentions known. This advice coming from someone who's name was changed to NO GC (Gift Card) due to a complaint with a pharmacist and the on duty manger. This happened to me one time at KMart and I will never forget it. However do keep in mind your insurance might not pay for your refill until the final day listed on the bottle?
Hi, if docter wrote a script saying 1-2 tabs daily, the doctor usually give the amount based on the 2 tabs daily. Also it is a good idea to turn the other script into the pharmacy and they will log it I in
your record and fill it when it's time. You can have automatic refill or you can call it the refill yourself. Do not pharmacy hop or doctor hop.
Re: Alassin Sane (# 20)
My Insurance will refill at 71% use of non controlled medicine. About 10 years ago I had a Pharmacist fill a 3 month, 270 pill prescription of Xanax 30 days early. I got him in trouble, felt bad. These days you need to wait until the last day, possibly the second to the last day, the Computer knows all, never thought I'd say that
Cvs is giving me a huge issue about filling 2 days early
BUT the orgional cvs said it was fine...but it's 120 Mike drive to my bf house
at 57 I feel like,a looser
I agree!! That's why as a patient you have to know your rights. You can always call yoour insurance company an asked them.
You are entitled to take 2 tablets daily...when they put 1-2 as needed ,the doc is allowing you to take 2 a day max.you should have no trouble but if it's a big chain pharmacy, they may give you a hassle... I use a mom n pop pharmacy and they allow you to go 2-3 days early.
I was tired. It was too much math for me. Besides, I figured it out a little later. Hey, it's been a long time since I had to do math. You know machines do everything for us today.
ask your doc to allow and write the script to take 2 a day not 1 or 2
Stop going to CVS-they are the worst. Find an independant pharmacy or a 'mom and pop' pharmacy. I get mine filled 5 days early every month and if i need to go out of town-they do a vacartion over ride.
Actually my experience has only been with Vicodin, a bit stronger than Xanax and the only one where the amount per day is variable. It says 4-6 per day. The pharmacist looks at the 6 per day, I get 180 per month, and 6 into 180 is 30 days. They never do it by the lower number suggested. After reading some of these, I'm staying in Chicago. I have never experienced a problem. If I'm getting them filled early, it's rarely been 4 days, often 3 days, and after moving and using a different Walgreens, after about 2-3 months, they got to know me and knew I was up to no shenanigans. I have to say, I read a lot of stuff here that sounds like people are just trying to find ways of getting their drugs early.
But for the way it's written, you can still run out in 25 days and get it refilled whereas if it said one a day, you'd have over a month's supply and they wouldn't refill it. But I don't like that murky area of "or". Whatever I take, and I mean for anything, it's better to just have it spelled out for you, er, me.
Most insurance companies will refill it with 15% of the prescription left. You don't have to run out totally. And it doesn't matter if it's controlled or not, well I guess that might depend on the state. And if the prescription says 1 to 2 tablets, that means you can allow yourself 2 tablets daily.
santa claus , if a drug is a Schedule II you have to either get the entire prescription or lose it.
pudman56, how long a prescription is valid depends on the state.
Some insurance won't pay for a refill until it has been 30 days.
If you're speaking of a written or faxed prescription, or even if you're speaking of a prescription one picks up, can you please copy and paste whatever it is you said about me saying something about a prescription lasting only so long. If I did, it has to be old and I would have been relying on the words of my pharmacist and I'll lay you 10 to 1 the anything governed by the FEDERAL Drug Agency is not governed state by state.
I've also picked up 1/2 prescriptions on more than one occasion, however I paid by cash then.
All depends on pharmacist. U can fill BY LAW in my state 4 days early done it for years. Except the one month I'm going on vaca. So pissed. Insurance here covers at 4 days FACT!
What state do you live in that allows 4 days early for a refill? Just curious
Re: Den (# 22)
Den, I am sorry as we don't know the first thing about you? Therefore, no one can answer that question.
