My boyfriend of 2 years started took Chantix for 6 weeks but has been off it for 2 weeks now. I asked him to quit because in that 6 weeks he slowly became detached and cold towards me and it turned into almost hatred. He wants to leave our beautiful horse farm to go live in an apartment. We had an amazing relationship and wrete planning on marriage soon until Chantix got in his system. I have over a 100 almost exact stories like mine from the effects of Chantix. Has anyone experienced this and does your loved one ever come back and snap out of this depression? I'm afraid he will never see what this stuff has done. Is there hope?

Hello, Sasha! How is your boyfriend doing? I am very sorry about what has happened.

These types of medications have been known to cause such problems in some people that take them, but the good news is that things usually do return to normal, once the medication has been stopped. It may take a month or so, for him to really start feeling and acting back to normal.

However, he should consult his prescriber, just to be sure that nothing else is going on. There is also a chance that another medication may help, in the meantime, until he is more fully himself, again. His doctor also needs to know, so they can note this in his medical records to ensure that it won't ever be prescribed for him, again.

Is there anything else I can help with?
