capsule reddish/brown and white, RDY is on the reddish/brown part and the 440 on the white

This one has been a challenge to find a definite match for. Basically, FDA approved prescription drugs are all required to contain a unique imprint code / color / shape from all manufacturers. The fact that this marking is not showing up all over the place can indicate one of the following:

1. It may be an over the counter medication

2. It may be from outside the United States

3. It can be an illegal drug - although I doubt it with this one since the markings are so specific

I wish I could be more specific with this post, but at this point it is difficult to tell. Are there any other details which you can provide?

Crystal, thanks for your reply. The pills are supposed to be ramipril. I receibved them from my online pharmacy and found the color and coding different from the previous capsules. I did a search fon the coding and found nothing except that RDY is the stock code for Dr. Reddy's Laboratories in India. On examination of the small print on the prescription label, I confirmed that Reddy's was the manufacturer of the pill. I was concerned, however, to receive a capsule whose coding was not showing up anywhere as ramipril. You may have hit on the reason, since Dr. Reddy's Labs is a foreign manufacturer.
