Provigil Half Life

Hi. I have narcolepsy, chronic pain, and several disabilities from a severe accident a few years ago. I've taken Adderall (30 MG 2x day) for the past 3 years. Prior to that I took 200 MG of Provigil daily, but it's cost was over $800/month, and neither insurance nor medicare would cover it. My former sleep specialist switched me to Adderall with good results. I had to change doctors last December, and the new Dr. at the University of Iowa took me off all of my meds pending new sleep studies (I've had 3 in the past 5 years), pain clinic (also had that 3X in 5 years), seeing a neurologist, etc. We're talking 3 months for these tests and I'm currently sleeping 18 hours a day, and I'm in so much pain from lack of my other meds that I wouldn't care to be on my feet anyway. I do need to get to my appointments and I cannot drive without my narcolepsy meds. I have a number of provigil still on hand. I was wondering what the half life would be for these (do they even check for them)? This is the only way I can get on my feet again. I am on disability but I do have to be productive and make my appointments. I'm dying here, any suggestions?

Thanks so much

Hello, Stoood! How are you? I'm very sorry about how awful you're feeling.

Provigil contains the active ingredient Modafanil, it is classified by the FDA as a wakefulness promoting agent. It is not considered habit forming, has very low abuse potential and is a schedule 4 drug in the U.S., so it's likely not something they check for when doing such studies. It's not an amphetamine like Adderall and several of the others.

Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, headache, irritability, insomnia and weight loss.

It's half-life is approximately 15 hours and it usually takes 5 to 6 half-lives for clearance, so you'd be looking at 75 to 90 hours.

Is there anything else I can help with?
