Hi dr. I missed my period ds mnth only bt frm 2 mnth periods ws irgular... today i cnsult vd doc he gv progesterone.... medicine vl u plz tel me it hvng any side efct n hw it helps in periods plzz doc. Rply me as soon as posible im so much in tenstion n doc. My pregncy reports r neg. Bt i hvng morning stifnes problm... thnx im waiting for ur rply.

Progesterone is a hormone that is vital to the female menstrual cycle, it stabilizes the endometrial lining and the drop off of it each month is what causes your period to start.

Thus, a deficiency in it may cause some women to not have their period, if you are still young enough that you should be having a regular period, you are still producing Estrogens, which means that your endometrial lining may build up too thickly and that creates the risk of your developing other health concerns, thus it is necessary to supplement back the progesterone to try to rebalance your hormones.

Since it is a hormone, you may experience some side effects, such as nausea, headache, mood swings and weight changes.

Additionally, when you do begin to menstruate, it may be different than normal. The bleeding could be much less or much heavier, it may last for a longer or shorter period of time.
