can i take the trust pill after my menstruation? ive search the internet and it says u must take the pill on the first day of menses but my friend told me after the menses, so tell me pls as im confused, bc i want to use trust pills so that i will not get pregnant.

Maria, you can use them that way, but you will have to use other protection against pregnancy for at least a week, since you are not menstruating, they will take a little while to kick in.
Xhelle, did you have unprotected sex during the first week?
If you start the pills, when you aren't on your menstrual cycle, then they will take at least a week to become effective and you have to use some other type of protection in the meantime.
The only way to find out if you're pregnant, if you didn't use extra protection, is to take a test or see a doctor and find out.
However, if you did, it is normal for the pills to affect your menstrual cycle, especially when you first start taking them, you may skip altogether or have a cycle that just isn't normal and this can last for about 3 months.

Since these are hormonal based contraceptive tablets, it is normal for the to affect your menstrual cycle, so it may be different than what you were used to.

This helps allow your body to adjust to the hormones in the medication and starts the protection to prevent pregnancy, because you are not protected immediately, it takes time for the protection to take effect. You have to wait at least a week, before having unprotected sex and preferably, a month.

Okay, some information that should answer most of the posted questions.
These are oral contraceptive pills, there are meant to be taken daily, to prevent pregnancy.
If you start them the first or second day of your menstrual cycle, you should be protected against pregnancy, as long as you take them every day, as you are supposed to.
If you start them further into your cycle, such as on the third day or later, then you need to take them for a full 7 days, before you will be protected from pregnancy. So, for the first 7 days, you should use some other form of contraception.
Leah, taking one of these after having sex, if you are not taking them regularly, will not prevent pregnancy. In order for these to prevent pregnancy, you have to take them every day, so they are constantly in your body. This means that you even take one on a day that you don't have sex. If you miss any days, and just try to take one after having sex, there is a very real risk of getting pregnant.
She, if you dropped a pill, you should still take the next one, so you don't miss any. This will really just adjust your cycle by a day, you'll start and finish your menstrual cycle a day earlier, than you were.

There are some oral contraceptives that can be used as morning after pills, but they are usually either high dose tablets, or multiples of the regular tablets, which contain Levornogestrol and Ethinylestradiol, depending on the dosage, it's usually 4 to 5 tablets of them and either in one single dose, or in a few doses over 2 days, or so.
They also have to be used within the first 3 days, after having unprotected sex.
You should also know that the pull out method is not full proof! It's a proven fact that men release sperm the entire time and all it takes is one strong swimmer for you to get pregnant.

Donna, if you have suddenly stopped taking them, for whatever reason, then yes, it is normal to get breakthrough bleeding, even if you just had your period recently.
The pills in the pack that you take the week of your period are actually inactive pills and not having the hormones in them is how they trigger your body to start your period, so you basically do the same thing if you just stop taking them.
Have you consulted with your doctor about getting them replaced?

Shena, taking a regular birth control tablet, after you have sex is not going to help prevent pregnancy.
For oral contraceptives to be effective, they have to be taken daily for at least a week, before you have unprotected sex.
Though they aren't approved to be sold as such in most countries, they are some oral contraceptives that can be used as emergency contraception, but you would have to take several of the tablets, usually 4 to 5, at once and then a second dose of the same number, 12 hours later.
They are most effective when used in the first 72 hours, but can be used up to 120hours (5 days) afterwards.
And if you only took a pill after having unprotected sex, yes there is a chance you could be pregnant.
