I have been on 4 mg of diluadid 4 times a day for over 6 years now. I am having such a hard time getting from dose to dose, but my dr will not increase the dose... If anything he said eventually he will be taking me off my meds. I have become very dependent on them and will not be able to function on a daily basis without them..

Hello, Bridget! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're facing.
Most doctors do not plan for someone to be on pain medications permanently. Usually, best practice is to help solve whatever problem is causing their pain via surgery or non-narcotic options, then taper them off of the opiates.
The FDA classifies Dilaudid as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
