Pregnant And Taking 25gm Metropolo Twice A Day

Hi, I was diagnosed with boarder line long qt, a couple of years ago and was taking 50mg of noten once a day, but now I've fallen pregnant, I was changed to metropolo 25gm twice a day. I have had pretty bad morning sickness where I'm nauses in morning and dizzy all day, I don't come good to around 4 pm in the after noon. I had my blood pressure taken with a mid wife and my blood pressure was 100/ 45, which she said was very low!!! Im not sure if it is the medication or the morning sickness? My heart specialist is on leave, so I can't talk to him about it? Should maybe I only take 25gm a day instead of twice a day? Thank you kindly regards louise.

Hello, Louise! How are you? Congratulations on the baby!

The 45 is very low, though the 100 is considered safe. Were you having any symptoms, such as dizziness or severe drowsiness? Generally, unless you're having dangerous symptoms, or it's compromising blood flow to the baby, low numbers aren't anything to worry about it.

Metoprolol is classified by the FDA as a beta blocker and may cause other side effects, including dizziness, headache, stomach pain and dry cough.

If you're getting dehydrated, from the morning sickness, that could be contributing to the problem. How much liquid do you take in each day?

As to changing your dosage, only your doctor can advise you on that, it's very important when pregnant to always consult your doctor, for your safety, as well as that of your baby.

Hi Verwon,

Thank you for getting back to me, I was very dizzy, but I have been eating the naked ginger in mornings it's like glazed ginger and I can get about my day now!! So thinking it was more morning sickness then the medication!! I think I'm about 9- 10 weeks now and have my first scan tomorrow, so I'm hoping they will be able to pick up if the medication has gone in the fetus blood stream?!! Or will that be too early? I should get my blood pressure checked again tomorrow also!! Thank you you have put my mind at ease.

I'm sorry, but on that question, I have to admit to not knowing. I'm not familiar with the time frames of when it may transfer to the baby.

Hi Verwon,
I have been told by my baby doc that this is safe to take while pregnant, the noten was not!! I was esact 8 weeks yesterday i didn't take half of my tablet before I saw the doc so my blood pressure was 100/70 , I must remember to take it before I go in next time to see how my blood pressure goes!!
