I have ulcerative colitis and ulcerative proctitis. I have not been able to establish remission for as long as I have been diagnosed which was 5 years ago. I am 66 years old. My dr gave me 20 mg of prednisone to settle it down. I have been taking it for 4 days now and in the evening I have a terrible gas and urgency to go to the bathroom for about 3 hours. Could it be a side effect of the prednisone?

Yes, Prednisone is a steroid, so it can cause such side effects, the FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, fluid retention, acne and weight gain.
Are you on any other medications?
