Prednisone Am I Taking Right Amount?

hello ive got copd and consultsnt put me on 10 mg of prednisalone a day have been taking this for 7 months,but when i have a flaiir up of the condition i have to take 30mg a day for a week with antibiotics, problem id ehen that course is finished of 30 mg is it safe to just drop bk down to 10 mg daily or should i be taking 20 mg for ek then the 10 mg as usual? no one has said but it seems when i go from 30 mg to ten i dont dtay well for long. i usualy get chest infection monthly and that when my dose gets highered for a week. thankyou.

It certainly wouldn't hurt you to titrate down from 30 to 20 and then back to 10. So I'd say that's probably your best option.

In this case, I have to agree with Mason, usually if you are taking a high dose for 21 days, or more, you do have to titrate down to prevent further medical issues.

The FDA lists its typical side effects may including nausea, headache, weight changes, mood changes, fluid retention, and acne.

How are you doing, now? Are you on any other medications?

hiya thanx mason and verwon for reply sorry took kong to answer ive had chest infection,i usualy only take 10 mg of prednisalone daily with my other med which is spiriva,seretide, and ventolin, and seretraline for my panic attacks. but usualy roughly every 3/4 weeks i gets a bad chest where my dose of steroids usualy go up to 30 mg aday for seven days along with taking doxycycline for a week. but then after wk i go bk to taking just the 10 mg aday every day... but usualy after a couple of wks i start to feels really breathless not actualy doing anything and morning head aches. oh and wanting to wee alot, so was just wondering instead of coming off of 30 mg aday after aweek to go bk on 10mg would it be better to taper to 20.

i know you said icould taper to 20 mg but for how long a wk? then take my normal10 mg after that? i only take 30 mg for seven days.. and thats usualy every month or 3 wks before i take that wks course..sorry if im a pain ..but dont know why im feeling like this. thankyou for your earlier replies..
