Prednisone 20mg Twice A Day 5 Days (Top voted first)

Hi. I was given prednisone 20mg twice a day for 5 days for low back pain with no tapering. is that safe?

My 20 milligram prednisone prescription says take 3 tabs orally × 4 days then 2 tabs orally × 4 days then 1tab daily × 4 days. Does this mean for the first 4 days I take all 3 tabs at once and then the next 4 days I take two tabs at once and obviously I know on the last 4 days I take one tablet daily. Just wondering because I took my first dosage today and I took all three at once. Or should I separate the three throughout the day. And then when it comes to the two separate them throughout the day? Please help!

Yes, tapering is generally only a concern if someone is taking it for 21 days or more. It isn't necessary for short term use of Prednisone. It's always best to check with your doctor to be sure, but that is the general rule.

The FDA classifies this medication as a steroidal and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, acne, insomnia, nervousness and fluid retention.
