I have just started a course of Panafcortelone 50mg for 5 days, tapering by half every five days for 20 days. I have been sick with acute bronchitis with existing asthma. After one course of antibiotics and still a lot of shortness of breath, I have resumed a second course of antibiotics and starting to feel better. My question is can I stop the steriods when I fetel better. .as I am concerned about the length that im supposed to be on them..suppressed immunity etc and am I likely to get side effects at that dose and time length?

Hello, Karen! How are you?

No, you need to continue them and do the proper taper schedule, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. There can be risks associated with stopping it too suddenly, after having taken it for awhile.

The immune suppression and other issues don't usually occur, unless you're on them for a very long time and you won't be on them for nearly that long.

Is there anything else I can help with?
