Positive Urine Test For Fentanyl
UpdatedMy husband puts on my fentanyl patches for me because i can not reach my back. He had also woke up with one of my patches stuck to his arm which came off some time when we were sleeping. He takes percocet only but when he went into take a urine test it came back positive for fentanyl and percocet. The patch that was stuck to his arm was a patch that was already on me for almost 2 days. Why would he show positive for fentanyl. He's upset with me because of that one getting stuck to him and that he has to touch them to put it on my back. Is this stuff really that strong to show up in his urine?

Absolutely, The patch will still have between 25% and 50% of the drug still on the patch after 3 days of use. Many test come up with an average of 33 percent of the drug left after 72 hours so it would make sense that it would be higher than this at 48 hours. Do the math yourself and divide your patch mg into the amount of hours. SO if you take a 10mg patch dosing at 100mg per hour, at the 48-hour mark you have only used approximately 4.8mgs and at the 72 hour mark you have used 7.2 mgs. Leaving plenty of fentanyl on the patch in both cases. This is why there have been many reported deaths in young children and older adults who have come into contact with a used patch. There is still a lot of fentanyl left on the patch and this is quickly assimilated in a person who is opiate naive, or does not take that particular opiate. This is exactly why the manufacturer tells you to flush them down the toilet as they know that the used patches have a large amount of fentanyl still on them. ALso the hands are the thinnest part of the skin and the fentanyl is quickly absorbed in them. Your husband should use gloves when placing your patches on if he wants to avoid cross contamination. Avoiding a used patch that has fallen off, when you sleep in the same bed can be very difficult, i wouls suggest that you tape your patches onto your body for more secure fit.
You stated that "Your husband puts your patch on you because you cannot reach your back" Unless there is a specific reason you do not need to wear the Fentanyl Patch on your back. It can be used also on the upper arm,top leg, back or chest. Whomever places the patch on you should always wash their hands very well with just plain water *NO SOAP*,and or wear gloves.
