I am taking the pill for an abscessed tooth also. It has been 4 days and most of the infection is gone. My one big complaint is the bitterness in my mouth caused by the pill. It is really bad and I wonder if it has anything to do with the coating as the minute it hits my tongue, I can taste it and it keeps coming back. It almost makes it unbearable to take.

Yes, if its hitting your tongue like that, then that's a good guess as to the cause and it that's occurring then it means you aren't taking them properly.
The pill should be placed as far back on your tongue as possible, just short of gagging on it and swallowed immediately with a full 8 ounce glass of water.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
