If you are new to taking it and aren't on your period when you started it, then it takes 7 days to be effective and prevent pregnancy.
As long as you keep it within a few hours, you'll be okay. The problem really arises when there's a lapse of 24 hours or more and you completely miss taking one or more tablets.
But if you take one a 7 one day, then at 8 the next day, that's fine. It doesn't have to be exactly 24 hours on the dot.
However, getting in the habit of taking it at the same time every day will really help you to remember, so you may want to leave yourself a reminder to take it each day, such as right when you first wake up.
