Good pill.... bad medicine

I have solved the mystery about the yellow pill, thanks to this site.
Now, I'm a little upset with the facts.
My husband suffers from a neurological illness, involving his brainstem. It's been a very difficult road for him, dealing with the problems that cannot be prevented. I am angry because the pill about which I had inquired here has turned out to be a good medication, but very bed medicine for my husband.
One of his problems is that his brain makes him waste sodium; a problem we have been able to handle by being very careful.
After a recent neurosurgery, he was also having trouble with a very erratic blood pressure. He was initially put on Lisinopril, but upon discharge he was given an additional med, Norvasc. I had it filled at a local pharmacy. While the pharmacist was filling the prescription, he was also yelling at one of his employees.
Two days after taking the new pill, his urine output increased significantly, and he began having muscle cramps. The docs had him return to the hospital where they discovered his sodium was extremely low. They got it back up, and sent him home a couple of days later, telling him to continue with the meds he had been taking at home. Within two days, he was sicker, weak, and obviously having problems again. We again returned to the hospital where his sodium was 111. This process continued two more times, one of the times the low sodium resulted in seizures.
I checked and rechecked every one of his pill bottles. Everything looked good. Then one evening it occurred to me that the Norvasc he took in the hospital was blue, while the pills at home were yellow. That prompted my question to this site. After some searching, I found the pill. I had misread the three little letters. The pill did not read PAF 117, as I posted; it read PAR 117. The pharmacy made an error. He filled the bottle with Amiloride, whereas it was supposed to be Amlodipine (Norvasc). He had labeled the bottle Norvasc 5mg, but filled it with the Amiloride and that was what I had been giving my husband.
I'm more than a little sick about the error, and wished I had checked out the pills earlier. Never again will I trust that what the bottle says is what's actually in the bottle!
