Phenytoin Ex Cap 100mg Side Effects

I have been taking phenytoin for 15 years for seizures due to abnormal vessel between speech and memory part of my brain. I fill my meds at Wal-Mart. Here lately they switched me to phenytoin made by a different company and it has me all messed up.I was taking a brand made by a company AMN. Now they switched to a company called Mylan. I am tired of this.Once they gave me phenytoin that was orange color. Talk about being on edge, I was. What is the difference in one company and the other? Now I feel like I am going to have a seizure. I feel totally different.I am scared and don't like feeling weird.

There can be slight fluctuations between one generic medication and another, they are allowed to differ in the amount of the active by plus or minus 20% of that in the name brand. The different is usually very slight and doesn't cause problems for most people, but if you are particularly sensitive to medications, it could cause issues for you. I've had similar experiences with medications myself. This allowable difference is covered under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984.

If your insurance will cover it, you may do better by asking your doctor to prescribe it as 'brand medically necessary', or whatever the equivalent is in your state, so they can no longer give the generic and these problems would be eliminated for you.

Typical side effects of Phenytoin, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, weight gain, mood swings and dry mouth.
