Pharmacy Mixed Up My Drug With Something Else
UpdatedI am on a prescription of Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg for high blood pressure. When I refilled my last prescription I noticed that some of the pills were different than the others. I know the ones that are round peach colored with 25 imprinted on them are the right ones. The other pills were smaller, round and pink with only a P on imprinted on one side and nothing else on the other side. I took the bottle into the pharmacy today and the pharmacist doesn't know what this smaller pill is. They took the whole bottle of them away from me and crossed the label with an "X" saying I must have mixed something else with the regular drug. I told them I certainly did not and they say they didn't do it. Anyway, I'm trying to find out what the small pink pill with the P imprint is as I have been taking them for 2 months. Any insight would be most welcome. Thank you.

There really is no way of knowing. It is possible that one of the pharmacy techs made a mistake and grabbed the wrong bottle. No one is perfect. That is why it is important to always verify what you received in your prescription bottle with the info on the prescripion bottle and what you were prescribed. If the pharmacist had not thought that they made they mistake, I doubt that they would have marked the bottle with an X and kept the bottle. Did they give you a new prescription ? Be sure and mention this to your dr when you see him.
No they didn't replace them because I just got a new refill (and they are the correct ones). I wanted to take the right pills out of the old bottle but she didn't let me do that and just said you've just gotten a refill and don't need these. Yes, I'll certainly mention this to my doctor as there is something wrong in my GI tract but no test thus far has been definitive. My symptoms have worsened and I'm wondering if this mystery pill has anything to do with it. I've searched through tons of pill images with no luck.
You might want to think about changing pharmacys. If the pharmacist had handled it differently, I might not say that. You deserved a professional answer and you paid for the prescription. It should not have been handled that way.
The only tablet that I could find that was pink and round with a P wasn't small. It was Pepcid Complete, which is OTC. Have you considered contacting the Poison Control Center and explaining the problem and ask them if they could look in their database. If you do, be sure and tell them at the Beginning of the call that it is not an Emergency. If your dr thinks it needs looking into further, he might be able to contact the closest university that has a School Of Pharmacy. If you find out anything, please let us know what it was.
Thanks, I'll take your advice and report back.
