Pediatric Clindamycin

My daughter has just been prescribed 8ml of clindamycin palmitate 3 times a day for 7 days. She has been fighting ear infections, sinus infections and upper respiratory infections for the past 4 months. She has been on amoxicillin, Augmentin, septra and cefdinir and neither of these have worked. I took her to an ENT last week and recommended we remove her tonsils and adenoids and have ear tubes put in. She is scheduled for 3/11 however she is still running a fever off and on and has a slight cough so that is why he gave her clindamycin. I'm just worried because of the side effects of this antibiotic. I know it's a broad spectrum med so it has a higher possibility of c. Diff.... Wondering if anyone has dealt with this with a young child? I know she needs to be clear of fever and cough before the surgery however I am wondering if I should request another med or if the benefit of this drug outweighs the side effects...... Just hoping for some advice/insight.

How is your daughter doing?

The risks are about the same for any antibiotic, but they are very rare. The normal side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Did you double check with her doctor?
