Pain Pill Addiction

i have been going to pain management for 6 years and taking 6 30 mg, 10 15 mg oxycodone and 1 a day of fentora 400 mg. now i am thinking about going to suboxone. i can't bear the w/d and thought sub would take care of it. but i see different outcomes for different people. i have got to do something, it's destroying my life and any and everything in it....HELP!!!

Are you addicted, or just dependent on them?

There is a difference, because addiction occurs when someone likes how they feel from the side effects of a medication, but since side effects wear off as your body gets used to a medication, they have to keep taking higher, and higher doses to get them back.

If you are only taking them as prescribed, and not abusing them, then you are only considered to be dependent. Stopping them suddenly can still result in withdrawals, but they are generally not as severe as those experienced by an addict that goes cold turkey.

Has your doctor expressed concern about how much you are taking?

As to Suboxone, while it does contain the opiate Buprenorphine, so it can help with pain in some people that take it, you do have to be in full withdrawal from all opiates, before you can start taking it, or it can trigger dangerous precipitated withdrawals.
