They are both steroid class medications, but they are not quite the same and the required dosages are usually different.
It is also never a good idea to take a medication that has been prescribed for someone else, not to mention the fact that it is illegal, under current FDA and DEA laws.
The typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, fluid retention, insomnia, nervousness, and weight changes.
It would be best to only take the one that his doctor has prescribed for him.
