Oxycontin Oxycdone Cold Turkey Withdrawal
UpdatedI've been on oxycontin for a year---for pain. Had a bad accident, almost three dozen fractures. Have been tapering for past couple months, down to 10 mg oxycontin/day plus one or two 5 mg fast-acting oxycodone if withdrawal starts. So I'm on about 15-20 mg total/day. I plan to go cold turkey on Friday. Am I crazy to think that in a week to 10 days I'll be back to "normal." I've heard everything from 1 week to 3 months for withdrawal to go away. I have clonazepam to help with withdrawal pains, and gabapentin (leftovers from when I was in terrible pain). Advice? Home remedies? Experience, strength or hope to share? I'm pretty nervous about this. From what I've read, withdrawal can be hellish.

Did you get a reply? Several years ago I did a cold turkey from oxy & perc (mom threw them out) after surgery (had been 60-80mg/d for about 5 mo). It was like I had the worst flu ever. Constant puke/runs, couldn't eat. But after about 1 week it was done.
@bones healed,
The numbers you heard are pretty much along the same lines as many reviews I've read, whereas it may take a ball park range of 1 week to 3 months to feel normal depending on several factors unique to each individual; such as body chemistry, tolerance levels, among other information you already provided.
Some other things that may be worth taking into consideration from a mental standpoint of overcoming transition/discontinuing something you've been taking for such a long time: One's reason/driving force behind transitioning; certain aspects of one's own sense of security after stopping treatment; adaptability to environmental circumstances/situations while in this temporary state of vulnerability; keeping emotions in check...little things like that which aren't really mentioned too often.
And after seeing post #1 by lizbiz, I don't think it's crazy at all to contemplate if you'll be back to normal around a week's time. But if it doesn't happen the way you expect it to by days 7-10, don't give up, but instead use that as an indicator that you've pushed through the worst of it.
Hope this encouragement helps!
It does help very much, thank you. It's been 12 days now and...it's been rough. I won't bother rehearsing the symptoms--all the usual stuff--what surprised me was their intensity. Wicked headaches. Burning stomach cramps. Total exhaustion. And the body twitching/jerking--which lasted 9-10 hours at a stretch. Lingering symptom seems to be insomnia and twitching through the nights. And some emotional stuff, which I think is in part due to the total exhaustion. Low-grade depression, or just feeling blue. Also, I had almost no appetite for the first week, so I lost weight. I'm thin already so I went from thin to gaunt. Appetite pas mostly come back, but I'm still feeling kinda wore out. Easily fatigued. But YES, I'm off these freakin' drugs and I believe the worst is over. Also, I was on them for severe injury (35 fractures) and the good news is that I'm not in pain. Phew! Next week I start a new job so the timing is kinda good. A new start. Thank you again for the supportive words. They help immensely.
